Brick Lane

Chaps. - any recommendations for a decent place down brick lane.
Would usually avoid and go to dishoom or tayyabs, but needs must…..
Anything’s decent I should head towards
Cheers

Your average curry in Brick Lane these days is pretty poor. Generic dishes, overly fatty sauces etc. It all looks and tastes a bit 1970s. The world has moved on - but Brick Lane is now churning out bang average stuff that thoughtless tourists will buy to say they've eaten there.
As people have said, you're better off heading to Gunpowder or somewhere like that. There are good places dotted about in the East End, just not generally on Brick Lane. Couple exceptions, of course.

Brick Lane, like a lot of the UK is Bangladeshi food, not Indian. Get away from that tourist trap and get over to Gunpowder in Spitalfields. Class.

Gunpowder is only a short stroll away for something much nicer. On Brick Lane The Standard does what is says on the hoarding and is best of an average bunch

Brick Lane Brasserie.
They claim the best lamb chops in Brick Lane and I've had them a few times and can confirm that is almost certainly true. Banging!

You should try the Brick Lane Bagel place near the junction with Bethnal Green Road.
It's gone down hill a little since the owners were murdered by their son, but still ok

Always used to go Monsoon when I went there, think its still open.
Service was better than than others, all the food quality was the same in all of them tbh.

The Standard or Bengal Village, whichever looks better on the night. A few in the Pride first makes them all ok.

Strangely, Gandhi (the Mahatma, not the restaurant) is deeply unpopular among a large portion of India's population.

Yea, I never rated the Ghandi's down there.
I believe there is a well renowned bagel shop there, never been though.

I've eaten there a couple of times. Both were truly awful. Insipid and dull.
If you can, go somewhere else, preferably somewhere that has South Asian people dining there.

From what I gather the same basement kitchen serves a bunch of the restaurants anyway so it probably doesn't matter

But if not, Needoo Grill on New Road. Two minutes walk from Tayyabs.
